Sometimes I get lucky and find a match right away toward the very end of that list. If I have to go into the “None of these look right” area, then it can get dicey. (Yes, I’ve submitted a ticket.)įor manual identification, the right one often pops up right in the initial suggestions, but Roon didn’t choose it for some reason. Roon has fits with these and doesn’t give me much help with matching up the tracks, something I would like Roon to do something about. I also usually split long “albums” into logical albums of 60 to 90 minutes because that’s how I like to choose them for listening. After adding the album I check if Roon identified it. Before adding a new album, I always “fix” the metadata to my own standards. Some will never be identified because they were private issues and other such. I have 579 of my 7050 classical albums not identified. Among the sites that have information on the largest number of entities are those sites that focus on discographies of composing and performing artists. Some of these operate as an online music store or purchase referral service in some capacity. Note that many of the sites provide a specialized service or focus on a particular music genre. With many more users and collaboration, it could become Metabrainz and who knows the goals of Roon? Everything is slowly getting better! en. List of online music databasesīelow is a table of online music databases that are largely free of charge. Discogs, LastFM, Soundcloud, YouTube and others offer additions, but not in pure quality either. I think that anyone who has been collecting digitally for 30 years won’t get everything from FreeDB or Metabrainz. Qobuz also has a good focus on good metadata. That’s why Spotify collects data like a world champion and Roon independently builds its object orientation from existing and derived metadata. Only now is the music industry realizing how important accurate metadata is in recognition and recommendation. My data comes mostly from the music services themselves, but as the developer of SongKong has already correctly pointed out, they were not accurate in the past either. I think my metadata is over 90% good, but everyone will have bad metadata, so it’s worth improving. Whereby I assume that many music tracks are available multiple times, so it is really less than half. That seems low, but with 2.6 million titles, that’s also between 600,000 and 700,000 titles identified. Roon is the best I have, but it only identified about 25% of my albums, artists and tracks in the first attempt. Metadata is both Roon’s greatest asset and it’s Achilles Heel.
